Taking Back The Streets

In the 80’s, a fashion movement emerged out of New York hip hop culture. This trend called “streetwear” would soon take over the world. As young people listened to more rap music, they began to emulate the style of their favorite Black artists.
Bucket hats.
Oversized clothing.
Scripted jewelry.
Hoop earrings.
Sneaker culture.
All of these trends can be traced to Black and Brown communities and emphasize the sweeping influence of our culture here in America and beyond.
